Oxford City player-manager Justin Merritt has urged his players to make one last push for the BGB Southern League Premier Division play-offs, beginning with the visit of Evesham to Court Place Farm on Saturday.

Although City are six points off the play-off zone, victory would stretch their unbeaten run to seven matches, and Merritt is keen to maintain their momentum against the Worcestershire outfit, whom they beat 1-0 away earlier in the season.

“The players are working very hard. They showed a lot of character at Tiverton (City came from behind to draw 2-2),” said Merritt.

“We’re six points of the play-offs and we’ve got 11 games left, so let’s give it a go and see what happens.

“But Evesham are quite a tough side.”

City give a home debut to James Clarke, who joined after being released by Oxford United.

Banbury United entertain Chippenham at Spencer Stadium.

Didcot Town striker Michael Bartley faces a fitness test ahead of their trip to AFC Totton in Division 1 South & West.

They are already without Matty Jack, who is doing a charity parachute jump, while skipper Jamie Heapy and Simeon Howell are suspended.

Howell would have been available had he he served his ban on Tuesday against Thatcham.

However, the game was abandoned at half-time due to a waterlogging.

Winger Josh Dutton-Black, whom they signed from Totton is unable to play following an agreement between Didcot and the Hampshire club that the winger would not appear against his old club.

Youngsters Matthew Midwinter and Adam Bruce are added as cover.

Boss Stuart Peace said: “We’ve definitely got four out, which is not ideal.

“They beat us at home 1-0, but I’m not bothered what happened earlier in the season.

Now it’s about getting points on the board. I’m looking for the younger players to step up to the plate and I’m sure they will do a decent job.”

North Leigh will be without Karl Dodds for three weeks after he broke his nose during last Saturday’s 2-1 win against Gosport Borough.

The defender went up for a header on the edge of the Gosport box, only for teammate Chris Weedon to catch him on the nose with is head.

Manager Mark Gee said: “Chris has basically headed Karl instead of the ball. It must have been very painful.”

With Dodds out, Stuart Hole moves back from midfield, with Andrew Helby moving into the middle.

Meanwhile, Gee has signed Lee Keyes from Milton United.

Abingdon United are hunting back-to-back wins when they host Gosport Borough. It follows Wednesday’s 3-0 win at Bishops Cleeve.

THE decision to allow Banbury United home advantage in their Oxfordshire Senior Cup semi-final against Oxford City on March 24, was made with the toss of a coin.

Senior Cup competitions secretary Ray Mills said: “Last season, we did the same and City got home advantage.”
