Injury robbed Frances Briscoe of a shot at the ladies’ crown in the final round of the Oxford Mail Cross Country League at Clanfield on Sunday.

The White Horse Harrier, who had missed the English Championships the previous week, held a one-point lead in the ladies’ standings after round four.

But in order to qualify for the title, she would have needed to compete in four of the five-race series.

By missing the race, Briscoe, who was present at Clanfield, had taken part in only three.

The title instead went to Swindon Harriers’ Kate Jacobs, who won the final round.

Sue Francis (Team Kennet) landed the vet 35 honours, while Banbury Harrier Ros Kelling lifted the vet 45 title.

Swindon Striders’ Jackie Evans took the vet 55 women’s honours.

In the under 20 competition, Oxford City’s Martha Lloyd had to settle for second place, behind Swindon Harrier Emily Connolly.

The women’s Division 1 team title went to Team Kennet, while Oxford City A won the Division 2 crown to secure promotion to the top flight next season, along with Radley A and Alchester A.
