Berinsfield's Jordan Flynn powered his way through to the finals of the 2009 National Schoolboy Championships with an emphatic points victory over Ben Brown in Surrey.

Quickly into his rhythm, Flynn got behind the jab to frustrate his Guildford opponent and carve open a decisive lead by the end of the opening round in this Class 1 42 kg encounter.

Landing repeatedly to both head and body, the gap widened even further after the middle period as Flynn continued to dominate.

Brown, well adrift on the computerised scoring mechanism made a vain bid to claw back the difference but it proved an impossible task.

Coach John Healy said: “Jordan was so focused for a youngster and boxed in such a mature fashion that he deserved the victory.

“But he knows that there is still a lot of hard work to do before the final and nothing can be taken for granted.”

Flynn now faces Hayden Rush of Retford, who won the Northern Area semi final, for the national title at Dagenham on Saturday, March 7.

Bantamweight Richard Tyler moves a step closer in his quest to be crowned a NACYP champion in Bristol this afternoon.

He tackles Premier ABC opponent Tom Jones for a place in the Class B quarter finals of the competition.

Already through to the last eight is Berinsfield’s Harley Mace who has a walkover in the Class C featherweight division.

Oxford Boxing Academy welterweight Steve Reese chalked up his third consecutive win of the season with a polished points victory over Daniel Regis from the host club at Welwyn Garden City.

From the bell he was too agile and precise for his rival, landing straight rights and uppercuts off the jab to give the ringside judges an easy task.

TICKETS have gone on sale at £35 each for Berinsfield’s next dinner show at the Rover Club in Roman Way, Cowley on April 17.
