The venue for last week’s Oxford Carp Winter League was the Club Pool at Tunnel Barn Farm and the 20 matchmen found some consistent action.
Fishing at 16 metres tight to the island, Steve Bartrum weighed in a winning 39.12.0 of small carp on expander pellets.
The island was the place to aim for as Steve Johnson (Maggots End) also targeted it, finishing with a second-place 35.8.0 on double white maggot.
Andy Wiffen (RS Baits) had to settle for third place with a net of carp going 34.6.0. He also fished tight to the island with pellet on the hook.
With two matches left, the current standing are: R Guppy 15pts, A Wiffen 19, A Benwell 20.
Once again the Oxford Bus AC’s school waters produced the goods for the four anglers in Sunday’s match, with plenty of fish coming to the net, including several perch over 2lb.
Fishing the pole close in with maggot on a 22 hook, Pete Clarke won with a net of bream and perch worth 11.14.0.
He was followed by Terry Yates with 8.10.0 of roach and perch on the pole with either maggot or worm, followed by Brian Hyles with 7.4.0 of roach and perch, also alternating between maggot and worm.
The final match in this year's Kinloch AC P Woodley Winter League was fished by 12 at an in-form Lechlade Marina.
Sat next to each other, Colin Manning and Fred Harrison both weighed in 11.12.0. Colin caught perch and skimmers on the chop, while Fred alternated between chop and caster to catch perch and roach.
A net of perch and one lonely chub on pole and chop gave Len Alder a second-placed 9.9.0, while Les Tibbetts did enough to finish third, catching more than 200 small roach on the punch.
Final points: M Blackman 48, L Tibbetts 42, N Maynard 41, C Manning 39.5.
The Jolly Anglers were on their town waters and the six members thought the river looked spot-on, but in fact it was disappointingly poor.
Phil Ansell finished first with 7.0.0, using a groundbait feeder and maggot to land a 2lb chub and a 5lb barbel which gave him a scrap at the whistle.
Dick Edmunds caught 15 little roach on stick and maggot for a second-placed 1.2.0, and third was Dave Mitchell with 0.8.8, a little chub taken on groundbait feeder and maggot.
The Thame was back in its banks for Cuddesdon Mill VAA’s Pairs KO Cup and it fished quite well for the 11 matchmen, with several nice chub and bream were caught.
The winning pair were Brian Hutchings and Jeff Ring, who weighed in three chub for 11.5.0, the fish all coming to to Brian who fished the pole and maggot.
Second were Mike Harding and Phil Allmond. Mike fished bread on the lead and had two chub and a bream weighing 9.6.0.
The North Oxford AS match was switched from the Cherwell to the Oxford Canal at Wolvercote, where ten fished.
Starting off with worm over chop, Andy Crisp caught a few perch, then switched to pinkie over groundbait to tempt a few silver fish for a winning 3.15.0.
Alan Bateman was second with 3.3.0 of small fish, and Maurice Winstone landed a nice perch, plus bits, for a third-placed 2.5.0.
Benson were on the local stretch of the Thames for their Tiny Trophy and the six anglers really struggled, with only two fish caught.
With a cage feeder full of liquidised bread and cheese paste on the hook, John Wheeler netted a chub of 3.9.0, enough for first place. The only other fish caught was a tiny roach weighing 0.1.0, which gave Mick Marriott second.
Kidlington fished their McGregor Cup which incorporated a match against Clanfield last Sunday on the canal at the Wise Alderman.
Dave Scott-Picton (Kidlington) topped the 21-man field with 3.2.0 of roach on punch.
Alternating between punch and pinkie, Steve Heath (Clanfield) weighed in 2.12.0 of bits for second place, and joint third were Brian Sharples (Clanfield) and Dougie Foreshew (Clanfield), both with 2.10.0.
Brian caught bits on the pinkie, while Dougie had a perch weighing 1.8.0 on chop and bits on pinkie.
Kidlington won the match 14.12.12-4.6.8.
