Here are the lads who have been taken on by Oxford United as scholars for next season. They are from United’s current Under 16 side, which is proving potentially a good year.

Most of them have been with United for years, progressing through the age groups.

Les Taylor, United’s youth development officer, says there are still scholarship places available.

One of those is for a keeper, though United have had a look at local lad Marley Joseph, on trial.

YOUNGSTERS from all over England have turned up at troubled Blue Square Premier Weymouth in a bid to get a game tomorrow against York.

The cash-strapped club fielded a youth team against Rushden last week after most of the first-team left – and are looking for a team to face York.

Former Weymouth striker Martin Underhay, now advising at the club, said: "It's hard for them to come to terms with playing for Weymouth's first team in the first place, but to go straight into a Conference game from youth level is practically impossible.”
