Banbury Utd 3 (Travers 25, Groves 33, Gordon 72)
Clevedon Tn 1 (Easter 2)
Keeper Joe Murrell saved his second penalty in a week as Banbury came from behind to beat Premier Div-ision basement boys Clevedon at Spencer Stadium on Saturday.
Murrell, who saved a spot-kick on Tuesday against Rugby Town, did it again when he kept out Jamil’s effort after David Buckwell handled on the line.
This time last week the Puritans were a place of the bottom, but two successive wins has seen them move six points clear of the drop zone.
Banbury went behind early on when Easter saw his mis-hit shot bobble into the corner of the net, past an unsighted Murrell.
Lewis Travers headed the equaliser after Stanbridge flicked on Richard Groves’s cross.
Banbury took the lead when Richard Groves lashed home a fierce shot from 22 yards.
After the break, Banbury were reduced to ten men when Buckwell handled, but Murrell saved Easter’s spot-kick.
With a man advantage, Clevedon now poured forward, but Banbury weathered the storm.
Banbury made the game safe when Howard Forinton found Nicky Gordon who prodded home No 3 to seal the points .
