Oxford City 4 (Fisher 31, Pond pen 33, Gunn 53, Faulkner 65)
Yate Tn 0
Oxford City moved up to tenth in the British Gas Business Southern League Premier Division after completing the double against ten-man Yate.
The victory, City’s seventh win in their last nine games, lifted Justin Merritt’s men to within five points of the play-offs.
In the early stages there was little too choose between the two sides, with the only chance of note a shot from Jason Wood that went wide.
City lacked a little composure from their form of late with passes going astray, but they made the breakthrough when James Faulkner seized on a slip by Edd Vahid before he found Alex Fisher who fired past the keeper.
Two minutes later, Alex Stanley was sent off after handling on the goalline. Keeper Lee Matthews saved Darren Pond’s penalty, but the referee ordered the kick to be retaken – with Pond making no mistake second time round.
City took control after the break, with Andy Gunn heading in No 3 from Fisher’s pass following a good cross from Steve Davis.
It was all over for Yate when Faulkner grabbed his second from a Michael Lyon cross.
Craig Faulconbridge saw an effort blocked by Matthews, before Fisher’s header hit a post as City finished at a canter.
