King Alfred’s Community & Sports College stormed into the last eight of the ESFA Match! Under 12 Schools Cup with a 4-0 win at Ivybridge Community College, Plymouth.
The seventh-round tie finally took place at the fourth attempt on an all-weather pitch following three postponements due to bad weather.
And, after withstanding early pressure, King Alfred’s took the lead through with a neat header from Jordan Davies.
Ivybridge seemed to be rattled by the goal, and King Alfred’s took advantage with Jared Jones lobbing the keeper to double their advantage.
King Alfred’s maintained control in the second half, and substitutes Alex Demayne and Dom Simmons put away half chances to clinch victory.
Oxford Community School bowed out of the ESFA Under 15 Schools’ Cup with a 5-2 defeat at Ridgeway School, Plymouth, in the seventh round.
l VALE of White Horse Under 11s slid to a 9-0 defeat against leaders Gloucester in the County League at Longlevens Junior School on Saturday.
The game was switched to Gloucester as the pitch at Oxford Brookes Westminster Institute of Education was unplayable – and Vale quickly had no answer to the powerful Edji Mbunga, who scored four times in the first 15 minutes.
Vale were 5-0 down at half-time, and they conceded four more after the break.
Vale were in action again on Monday when they went down 1-0 to Jersey in a friendly at Oxford Brookes Westminster Institute of Education.
The match was settled by an own goal in the first half when Jody Byrne’s header – which was going wide – hit a Vale defender on the head and rebounded into the net.
