Premier Division side Abingdon RBL A bowed out of the Gentworks Oxford & District League’s Buildbase Plate after a 4-3 defeat to Division 1 outfit Green Road Club A, following a sudden-death frame.
Andy Benwell got Green Road off to a great start, winning both his frames against Jamie Saczak, which included breaks of 27 in the first frame and 48 in the second.
Kevin Higgs and Ray Benwell then traded the next two frames, before Dave Noake beat Steve Benwell in the next two to set up a deciding frame.
This was contested by Andy Benwell and Higgs, with Benwell emerging victorious.
Green Road will face Riley A in the quarter-finals, after Riley eased to a 5-1 win against Ashton A.
Chris Stone got the better of Ian Rawlings, with son James following suit against John Street.
Andy MacBryan and Kevin Leach shared the last two frames.
Division 2 sides Thame A and New Club also progressed.
Thame emerged 4-1 winners against Eynsham A.
Nigel Bossom defeated Bob Thiele to put Thame 2-0 up, then Dave White made it 3-0.
White dropped the next to Ashley Bowerman, but Thame secured the match with Tom Fletcher beating Lawrence Parsons.
New Club beat Division 1 side Rodney House A 4-2.
Steve Hale put Rodney House in front, but a break of 37 helped Paul Moss to the second frame.
Nigel Wilkins (Rodney House) and Luke Purcell (New Club) shared the next two frames, before Alan King secured victory by beating Nick Anderson, helped by a break of 33 in frame five.
Also through are Littlemore RBL A, who beat House Club B 4-2, and Riley F, who saw off Littlemore RBL B 5-1.
In league action, the performance of the week came frmo James Stone, who hit a break of 68 during Riley A’s 4-2 win against Witney C in the Premier Division.
Alan Mander made breaks of 24, 25 and 27 in the second frame of New Club A’s 3-3 draw with Rodney House A in Division 1.
Keith Philpott hit a 30 break during House Club B’s 6-0 drubbing of Riley D, while in the lower Divisions, Mark Bayliss, of Cowley Con B, knocked in a 35 during his side’s 4-2 success against clubmates Cowley Con C.
