Oxhoops Braves' superb run in the National Founders Cup faces its biggest test tomorrow when they travel to take on mighty Kingston Wildcats in the play-offs.
Braves, a team selected from the best players in Oxfordshire, are highly excited about the prospect of making the quarter-finals, but they start big underdogs in the last-16 tie against last year's losing finalists.
Based at St Gregory the Great School, Oxford, Braves reached this stage by overcoming last year's semi-finalists Worcester and new powerhouse Newman University, who have a number of British Basketball League veterans from Birmingham Bullets.
Braves' head coach Franky Marulanda said: “We are delighted to have made the last 16.
"I think we have made history as the first team from Oxford to make the play-offs. Now we have to concentrate on perfecting our offensive system and work on reducing defensive mistakes.
"We've had to cancel two training sessions already due to the weather and the school being closed, which will put us back a few days, but I am confident that the team will catch up.”
THIS WEEK'S RESULTS Oxfordshire League: Oxhoops Blazers 66, Wallingford 75.
Oxfordshire Central Venue League: Oxhoops Sonics Under 17s 45, Wallingford 37; Oxhoops Sonics 45, Witney 26.
