Lucy Boggis, Hannah England and Carolyn Plateau lead the Oxfordshire challenge at this weekend’s UK Indoor Championships and European Indoor Championship trials, at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

Boggis, who now lives in Chippenham, Wiltshire, hails from Lew, near Witney, and is competing at a major event for the first time.

Two weeks ago she won a GB vest at an indoor pentathlon event in Zara-goza, Spain, where she set a personal best by 200 points.

She will compete in the 60m hurdles in Sheff-ield, while England and Plat-eau race in the 1500m.

Boggis said: “I wasn’t really planing to do a full season this year, I was just aiming to do a few competitions.

“But the event in Spain went really well for me, and I was invited to the trials for the hurdles.

“I’m a heptathlete really, but it’s going to be a great experience for me in Sheffield.

“I’m just aiming for a pb. If I make the final, that’s brilliant.

“I have another indoor international at under 23 level in Cardiff, which is my big aim.

“I’ve been training really hard for that one.

“I’ve been doing a lot of strength and weights work recently, so I’m probably going to be a bit heavy-legged.

“It’s going to be good to run with the top hurdlers in the country, competing against the likes of Sarah Claxton and Gemma Bennett.”

England, who last week clocked the fastest UK mile time of the indoor season so far in the KBC Indoor meeting in Gent, Belgium, competes in the women’s 1500m at Sheffield.

England fi-nished third in Gent in a personal best of 4mins 30.29secs.

Her split for the 1500m was 4.12.81, also the quickest time for a Great Britain athlete so far this season.

England said: “The race in Gent was my first race of that standard and I was really pleased to hold my own.

“I’m excited about this weekend. I’m hoping it’s going to be a fast race, as no-one has the qualifying time for the European Championships yet.

“There are only two slots available for the team, so it’s going to be really competitive.”
