Oxford & Cherwell Valley College (OCVC) have linked up with Charter Standard Development club Summertown Stars.

The scheme involves students who have recently achieved their Youth Award Module 1 qualification (Developing the Environment), joining the coaching set up at Summertown Stars.

Twelve students have been placed with a Summertown Stars squad for the duration of the season, attending both training and matches.

The age groups of the squads in the scheme range from under 8s, under 11 boys and also an under 10 girls team.

Des Buckingham, from the Football Development Centre at OCVC, stated: “The feedback from the students so far has been great and they are all enjoying their time with each age group.

“They have put their own ideas into some of the practises and have built up good working relationships with the Summertown coaches.”

It is hoped that by the end of the season all students will have gained enough experience to be confident enough to coach a team of their own.

Owain Prosser, Football Development Officer for the Oxfordshire FA, said: “Placements of students have been planned so the both the club coach and the student coach benefit from working together.”
