OXFORD United’s match at Kettering tomorrow is in ‘serious jeopardy’, according to the host club.

The Poppies’ pitch is covered with between five and six inches of snow.

The club admit that the game is looking very doubtful about whether it can go ahead.

And it could be that Kettering supporters are asked to help clear the terraces and surrounding roads to give the game any chance of taking place.

A statement on the Kettering website read: “As of Wednesday, the groundsman and staff were confident that the fixture would go ahead with the pitch having a slight covering of snow, which would protect the playing surface from the expected frost.

“Contingencies were put in place to ensure that this would happen this coming Saturday.

“With the overnight diluge of snow, five to six inches in places, and Kettering coming to a standstill, this fixture is now in serious jeopardy.

“The Conference have instructed teams to leave the decision on fixtures as late as possible due to the current back-log.

“Whilst we will be doing this, supporters please be advised that the game is really touch and go.

“We will still be putting in place procedures just in case the weather does ease, and this may mean a call to arms with supporters helping to clear the terrraces and surrounding ground areas.

“We will keep supporters updated as soon as we have information.

“If the fixture does not take place this Saturday, we will be discussing with Oxford the possibility of them coming to the A-Line Arena next midweek, possibly on the evening of Wednesday, February 11.”

United are expected to take close to their full allocation of 1,200 supporters – although the weather has inevitably put a few off.

An update is expected around lunchtime today.
