Chinnor prop Bob Baker plays the biggest match of his life when he makes his England Under 20 debut against Italy at Worcester on Friday night.
The 19-year-old Wasps-contracted player starts at tight-head for the opening RBS Six Nations fixture as England bid to defend their title.
Baker, who joined Chinnor as an under eight, said: “I didn’t make it at under 16 or 18, so it’s an opportunity I have been waiting for for a long time.
“I found out I was in the team on Monday night.
“I was quietly confident of being selected.”
England coach Martin Haag has often been down to watch Baker in action at Chinnor, and has clearly been imp-ressed by the 6ft 4in prop.
Baker said: “I feel that my scrummaging has developed from the beginning of the season until now.
“I’m trying to play with the ball a lot more and keep my workrate up.
“This first game on Friday is going to be really fast and high tempo.
“I will be looking to carry my mobility throughout the game.
He added: “I always get a little bit nervous beforehand. I think that’s normal.
“I’m not really sure how I’m going to feel on Friday as this is a new experience.”
Baker will have a number of Chinnor players and supporters watching him tomorrow including Emma and Andy Millburn and Angus Neilson.
He is the first Chinnor player to be capped at this level, although flanker Dave Seymour achieved the feat shortly after joining Saracens.
Last year England did the grand slam at under 20 level, with the side receiving lots of attention.
Baker said: “A lot of the players are still involved and there’s a lot more talent coming through as well.
“I think we can play as well as they did, and even do better than them.”
He added: “The coaches have been telling us it is about having a ruthless edge.
“If we get into a lead, we’ve got to keep the pressure on.”
Baker’s England selection meant he didn’t feature for Chinnor at Worthing and won’t face Richmond on Saturday.
