Oxford Hawks slogged out a 1-1 draw with South League Premier 1 bottom club Brighton in a game they should have won.
Brighton relied heavily on a route one approach.
However, Hawks were not able to convert a barrage of short corners and didn’t show sufficient guile to break down the visitors’ dogged resistance.
Hawks started well enough when Ed Baldock’s shot was bundled over the line by Freddie Coppin after five minutes.
Yet sloppy defending presented Sam Forster with an opportunity to equalise.
In the end, Hawks could scarcely complain that they deserved more than the point which keeps them just above the relegation zone.
Banbury found promotion-chasing Spencer (Wands-worth) too strong, going down to a 3-1 defeat despite Will Kellett giving them the lead against the run of play.
Spencer found an equaliser before half-time and struck twice more in the second half.
Also in Premier 1, Ed Perry’s fine hat-trick helped Oxford University win 3-2 at Staines.
In the Regional division, Rover Oxford beat a physical Tring team 4-1.
During the second half, the game became increasingly scrappy, with Tring having three players sent off, and Rover losing Guy Tasker for a mistimed tackle.
Duncan Buckmaster (2), Mark Carpenter and Todd Hutchinson got their goals.
Abingdon lost 3-1 to South Bucks at Tilsley Park despite taking a tenth-minute lead through Will Trigg.
City of Oxford triumphed 1-0 at bottom club Bicester, the only goal coming early in the second half when Chris Brougham’s topped shot was finished off by Steve Bell.
Witney were held 3-3 at home by OMT, while Wallingford crashed 2-0 at Marlow.
