Oxford United striker James Constable has flown out to Italy with the England C party for Wednesday's International Challenge Trophy Group A fixture at the Stadio Santa Columba in Benevento, near Naples. His U’s teammate, Luke Foster, who was on standby for the game, was withdrawn because of his injury.
Constable will be competing with Stevenage’s Mitchell Cole, Burton Albion’s Shaun Harrad and last-gasp call-up Nick Wright, of Tamworth, for one of the strikers’ places after Burton’s Greg Pearson and Ebbsfleet’s Luke Moore pulled out injured.
England C manager Paul Fairclough said: “It’s a must-win game for Italy and I expect them to throw everything at us. We need to be very strong and win the game, as opposed to going for a draw.
“We’re going out with a positive attitude, we’ve picked a very attacking side and we want to win.”
The Italian Under 23 side is picked from players in Serie C.
