Oxford Hawks Ladies showed their promotion intentions by forcing a 2-2 draw at fellow title hopefuls Southampton in South Clubs’ League Division 1.

The game started at a high tempo, and remained so for the full 70 minutes.

Hawks broke through against the well-drilled Southampton team on 20 minutes when central midfielder Henri Coles converted a short corner but Southampton equalised with a short corner of their own.

Goalkeeper Evelyn Hargraves was Hawks’ star as she kept the visitors in it with save after save until, in the 53rd minute, Southampton went ahead when one of their forwards rounded the keeper to score.

However, Hawks reacted positively and a quick free hit was picked up by Amy Bryant, who burst into the D and slotted home.

City of Oxford recorded a 4-2 win at Teddington in Division 3A.

City scored early through Helen Dacre, and they continued to play excellent hockey, with Mary Capon and Rachel Lammey increasing their lead to put them three up at half-time.

In the second half, they relaxed too much, and Teddington struck twice.

But after good work from Ann-Marie Davenport, who fired over a fine cross, Kirsty Brammer scored.

In the Trysports 3 Counties League, Rover Oxford 2nd beat Amersham 2-1 in Premier 2. The opener came from Lydia Farrell. Amer-sham hit back but Elizabeth Kerwood scored her first Rover goal for the winner.

Banbury were beaten 6-3 at Henley, but there was no stopping West Witney, who won 7-0 at Newbury & Thatcham, with Ellie Norton and Sadie Lapper both hitting braces, and Kirk, Gatt and Sensecall on target.

Oxford Hawks 2nd lost 2-0 to West Hampstead.

In Division 2, Oxford University lost 2-1 at Tulse Hill & Dulwich.

Meanwhile, Kirsty Brammer struck an extra-time winner as City of Oxford beat London Wayfarers 4-3 in the England Hockey Plate. Mary Capon (2) and Vicky Quan-trell scored in normal time.

City are flying the flag for the county in the U15 Girls Cup after their 7-1 second-round win at Sutton Coldfield on Sunday. Cicely Thomasson fired four goals, others coming from Bubble Baddeley, Katie Withers-green and Margaux Wilson.

Banbury lost 3-1 to Rich-mond in the Ladies Trophy.

Meanwhile, Rover Oxford Ladies lost 1-0 at home to Swansea in Women’s Conference West of the Slazenger England League.

Swansea scored the winner 15 minutes into the second half.
