OXFORD United manager Darren Patterson has warned his side against complacency when they take on Dorchester Town in the first round of the FA Cup tomorrow.

Although Dorchester are languishing in the lower reaches of the Blue Square South, Patterson believes Shaun Brooks’s side, who won 2-0 on Saturday against Bishop’s Stortford, cannot be discounted.

“I’m looking forward to the game,” said the former Northern Ireland international defender.

“But as I pre-warned people before the Hayes & Yeading match, it’s not going to be an easy game, “It’s our cup final, as well as theirs, because we need to get through to the next round.

“And if we approach every round like that then we have every chance of progressing.

“That would be a tremendous lift for everyone connected with the club.”

The last time the teams met, United, who were then in Division 1, handed Dorch-ester a 9-1 thrashing - at the same stage of the competition - though the sides are now just one division apart.

United have a number of injury worries with defender Luke Foster already been ruled out, while fellow ankle-injury victim Barry Quinn is struggling to be fit.

Midfielder Sam Deering is also a doubt with a knee injury, though former skipper Adam Murray is set to return after missing the Forest Green match due to illness.

“Just as we seem to be getting our heads above water with injuries, a few go under again,” Patterson added.

“Charlie Greig, the physio, was treating nine players on Wednesday.

“Hopefully a few were just bumps and bruises after the Setanta Shield game (against Forest Green Rovers) and the extra time.

“A lot of them were playing their first game for a while, so may have felt that a bit. Hopefully they will pull through.”

Dorchester boss Brooks says his side are full of confidence.

He added: “We are defending well and making chances, and there is no reason why we cannot go there and put on a good display.

“We had someone at their game on Saturday so we will know what to expect, and like I said, we are in decent shape.”
