Chinnor will get within touching distance of safety, for now at least, if they can defeat Dings Crusaders in National 3 South tomorrow (2.30).

Having come close to victory in each of their last three league games, Chinnor are hopeful of making it fourth time lucky.

And with fellow relegation candidates Lydney and Rugby Lions playing each other, Jason Bowers’s side could be just two points behind the loser at the final whistle.

Bowers said: “To go to Canterbury last week and pick up two points was still a good result for us.

“But on reflection, it was probably a game we should have taken four points from.

“This means we are playing well, and we just need to find that extra few per cent.

“As a coach I am pleased with our progress.

“It would be great to give the supporters a victory after coming so close “But Dings are a strong side and we need to be at our best.”

Lock Duncan Williams is unavailable after a promising debut last week, so Harry Jackman should move to the second row, with Dave Jackson at No 8.

Ben Hewitt should continue at fly half despite needing stitches for a head wound in the 10-10 draw at Canterbury.

Prop Bob Baker returns to the squad after absence thro-ugh injury and England Under 20 commitments.

Henley Hawks’ home clash with high-flying Ealing kicks off at 4pm to allow fans to watch England against the Pacific Islanders beforehand.

Hawks hope to have wing Pete Davies and fly half Scott Simmons back from injury, but centre Angelo Flammia is again absent playing for the RAF rugby league side in South Africa.

Ealing could include former Henley players Andy Le Chevalier, Dinos Alexipoulos and James Winterbottom in their front five.

Scrum half Dan Smaje and centre Ali James are also former Hawks and live in Oxfordshire.

Ealing lost their first game of the season against London Scottish last week, but Henley believe they can surprise the big-spending Londoners.

Centre Shaunn Lombard, flanker Zane Du Randt and fly half Will Clark are all set for their Oxford Harlequins debuts as they make the long trip to Exmouth in South West 1.

Lombard’s introduction will see Nick Sevier move to full back in place of Huw Jones (unavailable).

Clark replaces the unavailable Mark Forth, while Ralph Jones comes in on the bench.

Lock Adam Pearson is out injured, but Angus McDowell returns to partner Paul DeLange.

Wallingford coach Chris Norrington wants his players to rally after three successive league defeats when they host Reading Abbey in South West 2 East.

But he was still very pleased with last week’s performance at promotion-chasing Maidenhead.

“In drier conditions we probably would have beaten them,” said Norrington.

“But they had the nous up front and managed to keep the ball.

“We played well then, but we need to bounce back with a win.

“Reading Abbey may be bottom, but did fairly well against Reading.

“As soon as we take winning for granted, we’ll start struggling.”

Ed Fernyhough makes his debut at hooker with Tom Hilll moving to flanker Norrington added: “Ed deserves his chance and played well last weekend.

“He would probably have made his debut sooner if he hadn’t been unavailable for a couple of weeks.

“We are also trying to get a bit of pace in the pack having lost most of our flankers.”

Centre James Lamb returns to the Witney squad for their Southern Counties North derby at Chipping Norton.

Chippy are favourites for the clash, which should see brothers Aaron (Witney) and Lee Tustin face each other.
