CARA Gainer won Frilford Heath’s White Horse Trophy after shooting five under her handicap on the Red Course.

Frilford member Gainer, who plays off 28, triumphed in the event, which encourages young girls to play golf.

Her nett 68 was one better than Woburn’s Rebecca Parmenter, while Nathalie Abecasis, from Sunningdale, recorded the lowest gross score of the day with 72, which was one under her five handicap.

Six-year-old Annabel Fuller won the nine-hole non-handicap competition on countback from Molly Kelleher (Elles-borough) after carding 47 on a shortened course.

Arthur Ball, Mick Faulk-iner and Bernie Pike won The Five Star Masters at Hunter-combe with 82 points.

Richard Poore, Barry Yates and Paul Notton finished second on 78, with Nigel Garrett, Dave Smith and Don Tester third on 76.

Five Star’s final event of 2008, in aid of ‘Special Effects’, the Tony Buck Celebrity Day, takes place at Frilford Heath on December 4.

Clive Alcock and Garrett will play with former jockey Mick Fitzgerald, Five Star’s 2008 celebrity.
