Andy Phelps (pictured), of Headington Roadrunners ran his 50th OxfordMail cross country race at Ascott, and it has taken him 19 years to get to the landmark.

He finished 84th, and made the B team.

Phelps made his cross country league debut at Begbroke in November 1989 when Headington first entered the league.

And during his time, he has scored 25 times for the A team, 11 for the B team, 13 for the C team and once for the D team.

His best position of 43rd came at Kirtlington Park in November 1994, followed two seasons later by his worst finish of 125th at the same venue!

He’s the tenth Headington athlete to reach his half century - and the slowest in terms of how long it took him to accumulate that mark - the Geoffrey Boycott of cross country runners perhaps?
