Chinnor drew 10-10 at Canterbury after a gusty display in National 3 South.

Their spirit was typified by fly half Ben Hewitt, who returned from the blood bin with five stitches in an eyelid and completed the match.

But Hewitt couldn’t land any of his kicks at goal - two of which hit the post.

Centre Darren Oxley came closest to scoring a decisive try for the visitors, but was hauled down just short.

Playing into a swirling wind, it was all Chinnor in the opening stages.

But in the 32nd minute, a Canterbury break ended with centre James Birnage scoring and full back Gert De Kock converting.

Chinnor were rewarded when they too drove the ball forward with a series of pick-and-drives, which resulted in Arthur Ellis scoring wide out.

A fumble in the Canterbury three-quarter line gave the alert James Serrano the chance to pick up and score just after the break.

De Kock’s 56th-minute penalty levelled it as the conditions became even wetter.

Henley Hawks lost 21-6 at Dings Crusaders after a “hapless” display.

Fly half Adam Ashwell gave Dings a 6-0 lead with a penalty and a drop goal.

Hawks’ best move saw wing Neil Baggett make a 50-metre break, but they had to make do with a penalty from fly half Tommy Turner.

A second Ashwell penalty made it 9-3 on 29 minutes, and wing Chris Wright-Hider capitalised on a lucky bounce off a Henley player to complete a counter attack with a try.

Ashwell converted to make it 16-3 at the break.

Henley began the second half well, but could only add a second Turner penalty.

Ashwell completed a masterful display with a try on 67 minutes.
