Oxford had to work hard for a 21-5 victory over local rivals Gosford All Blacks at the Southern Bypass in the BB&O Premier Division.
The hosts took the lead on three minutes when wing Jonny Tyler won the chase ahead to his own kick and touched down in the corner.
Gosford levelled when Dan Hughes, Eugene Griffin and Andy Buckingham set up a try for Murray Stewart.
Joe Hartley’s penalty gave Oxford an 8-5 half-time lead.
With the rain now teeming down, a scrappy second half ensued but Phil Longuet-Higgins at least kept the ball behind the Gosford defence with some astute kicking at fly half.
No 8 Mark Viner set up scrum half Andy Smith for Oxford’s second try, although Gosford felt he was held up, and Hartley converted.
Hartley added two more penalties to seal the points.
