Keeper Jon Beames saved a penalty as Witney United reached the second round of the SBJ Insurance Brokers Challenge Cup after a thrilling 5-4 shoot-out victory against their Premier Division rivals on Saturday.

With Witney leading 5-4 on spot-kicks Jon Beames kept out Tom Rowe’s spot kick to snatch victory After a goalless first half, the game sprang into life when Wantage’s Matty Horsell shot into the corner.

Witney levelled when Andrew Younie was pulled down by Tom Rowe and Ryan Curtin thumped in the free-kick into the bottom from corner.

They took the lead when Jon-Paul Mills set up Andrew Younie who scored his first goal of the season.

Four minutes later, Keen levelled from the edge of the area.

Wantage were reduced to ten men in extra time when Liam Ilsley, who is on-loan from Witney, was sent off for fouling down Younie.

John McMahon, Vinny Byfield, Mills and Ryan Curtin converted their kicks for Witney, only for Rob Durrant to save Jimmy Griffin’s spot-kick.

Keen, Tom Caddon, Ellis Langford netted, with Danny Allen firing over.

Harry Burnley scored Witney’s fifth, before Beames saved Tom Rowe’s effort, as Witney squeezed home.

Kidlington 7 (Williams 4, Baker 28, 82, Wise 76, 78, 88)

Sub Danny Wise hit a ten-minute hat-trick as Kidlington thrashed the Division 1 East underdogs.

Morgan Williams fired Kidlington ahead from the penalty spot after James Lisseter brought down Jimmy Deabill. Mark Baker scored No 2 from a corner.

In the second half, Neil Tattersall hit the bar, only for a double from sub Danny Wise to make it 4-0.

Mark Baker and Lee Bolton made it 6-0 before Wise completed his treble.

Wokingham & E 2 (Thorn 55, Wise 85

Milton Utd 3 (Keyes 6, 65, Williams 88)

Lance Williams scored the late winner for Milton as they beat the Division 1 East side.

Milton took the lead early on through Lee Keyes.

In the second half, Milton were rocked when Darren Thorne levelled.

Keyes restored Milton’s lead, only for Wokingham to level through a Jon Steadman own net.

Williams then fired home the winner from 20 yards.

Chinnor 2 (Stuart 49, Davis 66)

Abingdon Tn 3 (Thomas 4, Brooks 10, Green 82)

Abingdon Town reached the next round with a narrow victory against the Division 1 East side.

Town got off to a flier when Danny Thomas found the top corner.

Ten minutes later, Ryan Brooks made it 2-0 with a tidy finish, before Walker denied Ryan Davis with a great stop.

After the break, Chinnor pulled a goal back through former Oxford City striker Alex Stewart after Adam Stallwood’s shot rebounded back off the bar.

Chinnor were level when Ryan Davis’s corner went straight in.

But as extra time loomed Ben Green netted Abingdon’s winner.
