Oxford Boxing Academy’s 15 year-old duo Ben Kaluza and Clinton Townsend will compete in the quarter-finals of the ABA Junior Championships in London tomorrow.

The pair reached the last eight after impressive wins at Stevenage.

Kaluza, one of the youngest in his age category, retained his unbeaten record as he chalked up his sixth win in as many outings by stopping George Houghton inside two rounds.

The Bicester teenager refused to be intimidated by his taller and more experienced rival, who tried to impose his authority from the bell.

Houghton’s artillery bounced off Kaluza’s arms and gloves and the bout swiftly turned in the opposite direction.

The Oxfordshire teenager was able to match him at close quarters and then started to make an impression as the opening round progressed.

But his rival Houghton seriously underestimated Kaluza’s strength and his boxing was starting to become more exposed as the session drew to a close.

Kaluza was the more focussed of these two featherweights and swiftly underlined the fact when the pair emerged for the second round.

Houghton was bowled over by a precise and powerful right hand almost immed-iately after the pair emerged from their respective comers.

Although he beat the referee’s count, the Newham teenager was still shell-shocked and had no real resistance against the powerful left-right combination that prompted another visit to the canvas.

Houghton had been drained of all resistance and Kaluza had his arm raised in triumph with only 29 seconds of round two elapsed.

Townsend booked his place in the flyweight quarter-finals next weekend with a polished and determined points win over Anthony McDonagh.

Having his first outing in almost a year, there was no evidence of any ring rust as he took immediate control of the clash.

Townsend was always quicker to the punch and showed more variety in his shots to emerge with a clear and confident victory.
