City of Oxford’s Sam van de Schootbrugge has been invited to represent England in his first ever international competition.

Van de Schootbrugge will face Wales, Ireland and Scotland in the WISE Schools International in Swansea from March 13-15 next year.

This follows Saturday’s English Schools National Championships, where he captained the intermediate boys in Division 10.

Representing the European School, Culham, van de Schootbrugge was the only swimmer in the division to win an individual event - the 200m individual medley, with a personal best time.

Van de Schootbrugge went on to win the only other gold medal for Division 10 in the 4x50m freestyle relay.

His successes helped Division 10 finish third out of 12 groups, and win the trophy for most improved division.
