Oxford United boss Darren Patterson feels he still needs one or two more leaders in the team.

The U’s were without former skipper Barry Quinn, and current captain Joe Burnell, in the FA Cup last Saturday, and seemed a bit quiet on the pitch as things went against them in the first half.

Patterson said afterwards: "It shows me that basically we missed one or two that are a bit more vocal, and are leaders. It showed me that the squad still is light.

"The players were booed off at the end of the first half, but they showed a lot of bottle second half.

"That stands them in good stead and it shows they can respond to that type of first-half performance, and show some bottle. I thought they did that all over the park.”

And United’s manager was delighted that his team still won, and kept a rare clean sheet, when being well below their best for half the game.

"How many times have people said: 'you're the best side we've played against and we lose 1-0? So it's nice for us to dip under our usual home form and our usual standards, and win a game.

"I really believe in the quality we've got because we've got some good footballers here."

lUNITED are off to the New Lawn next Tuesday to take on Forest Green Rovers in the third round of the Setanta Shield. Last season they lost 1-0 at Aldershot in their first appearance in the competition.
