Kevin Godfrey (10,180, break 9,770) gave Nelson the lead only for Alan Lacey (9,570, break 8,570) to level.

But Keith Sheard (12,330, break 10,300) and Pauline Withey (9,110) then made it 3-1 to the home side.

Bob Allsworth won an important second point for the visitors with a 6,440-2,900 victory over Mark Trafford.

Dolphin A moved joint-second with a 3-2 win at Berinsfield Club.

Tony Broadway (5,230) won the opener for Dolphin, but Chris Storch and Simon Ellam (6,360) hit back to give Berinsfield a 2-1 lead.

A brilliant game by Geoff Mace (14,190) squared it, and victory was sealed when Martin Atkins saw off Craig Mace 7,560-1,240.

Horse & Harrow won 3-2 at Masons B.

After a shaky start, Dave Butt defeated Maxi McDonnell 6,360-2,880.

Gary Johnson (7,870) and Ian Moquet (6,430) hit back to make it 2-1 only for Ernie Smith (7,070), making his seasonal debut, to level.

Paul Lawson (10,010) then sealed victory for Harrow.

In Section 2, Gladiators Club moved up to second after a 4-1 win at Shelley Arms.

In-form Phil Clark set Gladiators on their way, winning against the break and Neill Cunliffe made it 2-0.

Although Ian Loveridge pulled a game back with victory against Richard Stowe, Reg Johnson and another win for Jenny Webb wrapped it up for Gladiators.

Leaders Democrats kept their unbeaten record intact with a 3-2 win at Dolphin B.

Richard Garrett (9,290, break 5,960) and John Patey (11,140, break 7,640) put Democrats 2-0 up.

Mel Standbridge (5,520) played well to pull one back.

Terry Green increased the visitors lead, but then Adam Thorn won the home side's second point with a 6,460-3,870 win over Billy Hill.
