John Brodley said it had been business as usual after his first game in charge of Oxford Harlequins.

Less than two years ago, Brodley was sacked as coach of Quins' big rivals Chinnor after taking them into National 3 South.

Few would have expected him to end up leading Quins, even at the beginning of the season.

But after securing Quins' first win of the campaign against Chippenham on Saturday, Brodley said his new role had come naturally to him.

"I just slipped back into it," said Brodley.

"I gave the team talk. I was going to give quite a lot of thought.

"At the end of the day I just slipped back into what I believe and stressing that.

"It was like I had never been away."

It is often the case that a new coach or manager has an immediate impact on results.

And the way Quins played in their 34-14 victory over Chippenham was not indicative of a side at the bottom of the table.

Brodley said: "What is really pleasing is the way the players have responded both in training and in the match.

"My key leaders on the field have accepted my role and authority, which is great.

"I gave players specific things I wanted from them.

"That bit of interaction helps."

OXFORD Harlequins may not have had the greatest start to the season, but they are at least joint-third in the South West 1 card table!

Quins have collected four yellow cards this season, with only Weston-super-Mare and Redingensians racking up more so far.

Henley Hawks, meanwhile, won't be pleased to see themselves topping the same table in National 3 South.

Hawks have collected 11 yellow cards in their seven league games so far, which is four more than any other side.

Next up are Lydney and Dings Crusaders on seven, while Chinnor are one of four clubs on the next rung down with five.

Chinnor captain Matt Hutchings has picked up three of these, which is one more match than his side have won.
