Henley Hawks beat Canterbury 21-14 at Dry Leas in a National 3 South game they dominated on the possession front.

The home pack were particularly impressive with flanker Alex Dupee, a former Henley junior, named man-of-the match.

Hawks fly half Scott Simmons missed a first-minute penalty, but was on target four minutes later.

No 8 Dave Clements and Canterbury prop Mark Livesey were yellow-carded after separate incidents in the first quarter.

Henley's backs were struggling, so it was not suprising that the opening try saw flanker and skipper Matt Payne power over from a line-out, with Simmons converting.

Canterbury grabbed a lifeline when wing Michael Melford sped in from halfway and Gert de Kock converted.

Replacement Tommy Turner kicked two penalties after the break before Payne notched his second try from a five-metre scrum, and later came close to a hat-trick.

Livesey was sent off after a second yellow card for punching on 58 minutes, with Henley lock Steve Green sin-binned for retaliating.

Wing Carlton Littlechild bagged Canterbury's second try, with de Kock converting.

Chinnor gained a bonus point after a battling 18-11 home defeat to third-placed Rosslyn Park.

With Pip Seymour, Alex Wallace, James Cathcart, Richard Williams, Arthur Ellis and Bob Baker all unavailable, Chinnor had to dig deep into their resources.

The changes included a debut for Tim Price at full back, Toby Prescott moving to wing and Alan Cawston coming in at hooker.

Fly half Dylan Pugh put Park ahead with penalties on six and ten minutes.

Chinnor hit back when Ben Hewitt touched down Darren Oxley's chip kick, but Hewitt couldn't land the conversion into a stiff breeze.

Park were rewarded for their dominance with a try for full back Chris Simmons, converted by Pugh, after running a great line.

Chinnor began the second half strongly and although lock Matt Hutchings was sin-binned, Hewitt landed a 56th-minute penalty.

An excellent cover tackle saw Oxley held up over the line, then Prescott was adjudged to have spilled the ball over the line.

Hewitt's second penalty made it 13-11, but a try by Aimo Tuaialo in the dying minutes sealed the game for Park.
