Oxford United manager Darren Patterson declared himself quite happy with yesterday's FA Cup draw which gave his team a first-round tie at home to another Blue Square South side, Dorchester Town.

But he also issued a warning to his players that if they play like they did in the first half on Saturday, they could be embarrassed.

The U's could easily have been two down at half-time against Blue Square South promotion chasers Hayes & Yeading, before coming through to win 2-0.

In the end, though, it could have been eight because they missed half a dozen one-on-one chances.

The first-round clash with Dorchester Town will be at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday, November 8, and on paper, at least, it gives United an excellent chance to make some more money in the competition, by progressing and possibly meeting a big club in the second round.

Patterson said: "I'm pleased it's a home tie, but it's one we'll be taking very seriously.

"We were lucky in the first 45 minutes on Saturday. I hope we can learn from that.

"We need to approach it in the same way as we did the second 45, and I'll be hammering home that we can't take them lightly.

"But it's good to get a home draw, and if things go well, it's a good chance to get through to the second round."

Unlike Hayes & Yeading, who were going well near the top of the table, the Dorset side are fourth from bottom of Blue Square South, although they are better away than at home, where they have yet to win in the league this season.

They beat Bishop's Stortford 1-0 at home in the fourth qualifying round on Saturday.

The tie brings back memories of Dorchester's visit to the Manor Ground in 1995 when Oxford United, then a Division 2 club, hammered them 9-1, with Paul Moody hitting a hat-trick.

But Patterson warned: "You only have to look at the number of shocks there were at the weekend to see what the Cup springs up.

"We've got to make sure we're not on the end of an upset as well."
