Division 1 leaders Riley A suffered their first defeat of the season when they went down 2-1 at Headington A in the Oxford & District League.

It meant that Fieldside moved level on points at the top, but having played a game more.

Peter Brookes (+110) gave Headington CC A the perfect start when he defeated Allan Copelin (+90) 150-122.

Veteran Doug Howse (+30) then won the match for Headington when he got the better of Matthew Challen (+40) 200-143, ending his unbeaten run of four consecutive wins.

But Riley's Malcolm Bough (+70) kept his unbeaten run intact when he beat John Williams (+70) 150-122.

Division 2 leaders Ashton also lost their unbeaten run when they went down 2-1 at Riley B.

Things looked good for Ashton when Keith Maskens (+50) beat Roger Tomlin (+70) 150-136.

But Riley B won the next two games when Doug Baker (+60) ended John Street's (+70) unbeaten run for Ashton 150-78.

Bob Hayward (+70) then beat Terry Chambers (scratch) 200-182.

Cowley Conservative Club B upset their teammates CCC A 2-1.

Ken Olive (+70) beat Arthur Coakley (+90) 150-117 to put the B side in front.

But the ever-reliable Keith Pearce (+50) levelled the match, and youngster Neil Kirby (+110) sealed victory Eynsham came from behind to beat Thame 2-1, with Roy Gascoyne and Geoff Watson winning.

Tom Fletcher had put Thame into an early lead.

In the other game, Paul Robinson and Mike Chapman gave Fieldside a 2-1 win over Oracle – again coming from behind.

Oracle's Ted Milsom saw off Bob Chivers in the opening game, but then saw his teammates unable to gain the crucial second point.
