A week of pre-season training in Tenerife proved highly beneficial for the Berinsfield quartet in action at Newbury, as all four boxers had their arms raised in triumph.

Middleweight Ian Jenkins, now a member of the Welsh national squad, made full use of his extra inches to dominate his clash against Waterlooville's Ryan Moore from the bell.

By the midway stage of the four-round encounter, he could afford the luxury of experimenting in the southpaw stance as he repeatedly rammed both fists into his Hampshire opponent's face.

There were unanimous victory verdicts for Christy and Tom McDonagh.

Christy was in control from the bell and frustrated Milton Keynes rival Sam Griffiths, whose shots were continually straying away from the target.

Tom showed more variety in his work to confidently outpoint Ryan Edmunds from the newly-opened Jubilee gym in Berkshire.

Will Healy was the other Berinsfield victor after a polished performance gained him a comfortable decision over Slough's Jack Scott.

The Oxfordshire teenager started to forge ahead in this clash from the middle round with the greater accuracy of his shots to both head and body deciding the outcome.

Banbury's Simeon Baker never allowed taller Newbury rival Kyle Andrews the opportunity to make his extra inches tell.

He was always quicker to the punch and dominated all three rounds.

Sunningwell's John Poncenby was unlucky to emerge on the wrong side of the verdict after an uncompromising battle with Shane Turley from host Thames Valley gym.

BERINSFIELD duo Jordan Flynn-Dhangal and William Joyce suffered mixed fortunes in Essex.

Flynn-Dhangal secured a unanimous victory over Gator's Steven Davis as his skill proved too much for his powerful opponent.

Joyce was slightly overwhelmed by Steven Demirbala, another Gator fighter, who used his height advantage to secure the verdict from all three judges.

BERINSFIELD bantamweight Richard Tyler is set for his England Youth debut – and he has already beaten Amir Khan!

o Tyler, 16, will fight for England against Wales next Friday, which will be a first for the south Oxfordshire gym.

But he achieved another notable landmark during Berinsfield's training camp in Tenerife.

Tyler broke Khan's record for an eight-mile run up Mount Teide, which underlined his fitness levels.

Berinsfield coach Mel Corrigan said: "He has been with me since he was about ten. This kid is a gentleman.

"Anything to do with fitness, he is a freak at it.

"Richard is our first England vest, which is awesome.

"We are looking at London 2012 for him."

Berinsfield's efforts in Tenerife impressed resident coach Jimmy Yellop as all their boxers completed the eight-mile run.

This was the first time a junior group had achieved the feat, and among them 16-year-old Jade Clarke was the first girl to do it.

"We were waiting for them to drop out," said Corrigan.

"That's why I was there in a minibus, but not one of them stopped.

"Jimmy said 'you should be very proud of them'."
