Masons A eased through to the second round of the Johnsons Buildbase Oxford & District League's Scotland Cup with a 4-1 win against Gladiators A, writes PETE EWINS.

Lloyd Wells (5,540) won the opener and was well- supported with wins from Alan Lowe against Dave Jarman 3,680-2990, Dave Rose over Bert Lovegrove and Sid Barrett who beat Malcolm Lee 3,490-2,870. Frank Cox (5,380) saved a whitewash.

To complete a good day for the club, Masons B fought back to beat Berinsfield Club 3-2 away from home.

Tony Broadway defeated Andy Webb 4,410-3,040 to give Berinsfield the lead, only for Jason Smith (6,880) and Chris Webb (11,630) to put Masons 2-1 up.

Although Sandra Tebby squared the match with a win against Dave Butt, Phil Light won the last game to seal their triumph, with a winning margin of just 200 points.

Bob Parsons rattled off 8,490 points as he helped Democrats thrash Head- ington Conservative Club 5-0.

Gladiators B crashed 4-1 at home to Dolphin A.

Jenny Webb scored her highest score (3,970) and also her highest break (2,480), but still lost to Paul Caister (6,480) in the first game.

Phil Clark (8,180, break 6,530) made it 1-1.

Simon Ellam (3,540) Chris Storch (2,670) and Jimmy Robson (4,870) then wrapped up victory.
