Wallingford coach Chris Norrington was pleased with his side's second-half recovery against Salisbury He said: "We had a disrupted back row, which may have caused some of the disorganisation in the first half.

"But in the second half we started to compete in the rucks and get into the game.

"We stopped letting them have the ball easily.

"Salisbury have been in this league and the one above for many years. For us to be at their level straight away is a great achievement.

"I'm really pleased with Pete Thorns at No 8. He was in the wars early on, but did really well.

"Mike Turner had the ball more today than in any game so far. He is not the sight you want to see coming at you.

"I know it is only the cup, but it was important to come back with a win after our first defeat last week.

"You always get an exciting game when you come to watch us.

"That was only round one. We have got two league games against them before Christmas."
