Chinnor defeated Lydney 19-17 in the first round of the EDF Energy National Trophy to record their opening home win of the season.

The hosts fielded a number of second-team players, but all their points came via the established duo of James Cathcart and Ben Hewitt.

Fly half Cathcart opened the scoring with a penalty, but there was soon a 25-minute delay following a serious injury to Lydney scrum half Jimmy Williams.

He was treated on the pitch by paramedics and had a brain scan in hospital before being discharged.

Five minutes after the resumption, a second Cathcart penalty made it 6-0.

But Lydney wing Chris Holder intercepted an extravagant Chinnor pass to score and fly half Mark Davies converted.

Chinnor continued to dominate territory and led again when centre Hewitt took the ball deep and at pace.

He glided past defender after defender before being tripped by flanker Dean Jenkins.

Referee Ross Campbell awarded a penalty try, which Cathcart converted, and sin-binned Jenkins.

A third Cathcart penalty made it 16-7 at the break, but Davies's three-pointer reduced the gap.

A second interception try, scored by Craig Jones after Trevor Powell's kamikaze pass, was converted by Davies.

But Chinnor battled back with Cathcart's fourth penalty clinching victory on 65 minutes.

Henley Hawks turned the tables to beat a depleted Rosslyn Park 20-10 at Dry Leas.

They had lost 45-14 to the same opponents the previous week.

Henley should have had an early lead, but fly half Tommy Turner missed two simple penalties.

Turner then missed a sitter from 15 metres after Park led 10-0 with a Roy Turner try plus Rhys Gosling's conversion and penalty.

Redemption came for Turner and lock Charlie Nixon, who was returning from the sin-bin, when the latter gathered the former's cross-kick superbly to touch down.

Another well-placed cross-kick from Turner saw wing Pete Davies show remarkable pace to score after the break.

Ralph Smith and Neil Baggett created a try for Angelo Flammia. Turner converted this from out wide and added a penalty.

Oxford Harlequins crashed out with a 23-0 defeat at Bracknell despite an improved second half.

Bracknell led 15-0 after ten minutes with tries from Oliver Jones abd Jervis Manupenu, plus Ben Nowak's conversion and penalty.

Centres Neil Spottiswoode and Anthony Cope and flanker Matt Young came close for Quins, but a Nowak penalty made it 18-0 on 24 minutes.

Quins prop Paul DeLange was yellow-carded before Bracknell wing Stuart Mackay scored in the corner.

After the break, DeLange forced his way over the line only to knock on.

Quins neutralised the Bracknell attack, and ended the match in positive mood.
