Former Oxford United star Jamie Brooks scored twice as Oxford City secured an impressive victory over Aylesburyin the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy at Court Place Farm on Saturday.

Brooks struck either side of half-time to keep up their good form in FA competitions ahead of their FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie at home to Eastbourne Borough on Saturday.

City got off to the best-possible start with a goal after six minutes against their opponents from Midlands Division 1 of the British Gas Business Southern League.

Aylesbury defenders failed to clear Steve Davis's free-kick, allowing Steve Jackman to score his first goal for City from close range.

City keeper Ryan Harrison comfortably saved a shot from Chris Marsh, who put another chance wide.

However, it was third time lucky for Marsh in the 22nd minute when he headed home an equalising goal.

There was little to choose between the teams at this stage, although City's James Faulkner forced visiting keeper Jack Sillitoe to block a shot with his legs.

City took the lead five minutes before half-time when Jon Gardner dashed forward and fed Faulkner. He set up Brooks, who netted inside the far post.

City got on top in the second half.

The result was settled in the 56th minute when Brooks caught Aylesbury defender Nick Leach in possession, before driving home City's third.
