Didcot's Peter Dutton is banking on home comforts as he strives to get his 2012 Olympic bid up and running at the British Championships next week.

The 18-year-old former St Birinus School pupil went up to Trinity College, Cambridge, last month but re-joined his former colleagues to compete in Germany two weeks ago.

And Dutton believes keeping close ties with the school is the key to future success.

“I’ve enjoyed my time at Cambridge so far,” said Dutton.

“I’m going to continue competing with the St Birinus club because they’ve been really good to me and helped me a lot with my progression.

“The long-term goal is the Olympics, but I need to build my pedigree by winning more competitions and that starts with the British Championships.

“I really enjoyed being back with the school and we managed to draw in Germany last month.

“I won my match and it is always a good experience to compete abroad because you come up against different types of competitors.”

Dutton, who is reading maths, will travel to Kilmarnock for the British Championships where he is among the favourites to strike gold.
