There was a good turnout of 11 anglers for the latest Oxford Bus AC match at Fritwell, and although the lake looked perfect, it proved to be a bit of a struggle.

Martin Room emerged the clear winner with a net of carp and perch weighing 46.6.0 taken on the pole with maggot and corn.

Fishing the pole eight lengths out, Doug Robinson was runner-up with 26.8.0 of carp on 4mm spandex pellets fished just off the bottom.

Pete Clarke had to settle for third place with a catch of carp on pellet weighing 23.12.0.

Sutton Courtenay were on the Otneys for their J Mullins/R Croucher Memorial fished by 18.

The Thames was clearing but still had a bit of pace.

Top weight was a net of roach weighing 10.12.0 taken by Gary Stafford on the waggler and maggot.

Malcolm Vigor went after the bream with a groundbait feeder and worm, landing one nice fish plus skimmers worth a second-placed 10.0.0.

Using the same tactics, Steve Wheatley finished third with some skimmers for 6.11.0.

Dorchester hosted an Berks/Oxon match on the Thame downstream from Dorchester Bridge fished by 17 anglers.

The river was spot-on, with a nice flow and a bit of colour.

Phil Ansell took the honours with a net of bits on pole and maggot and feeding hemp.

Bleak basher Jonno Johnson weighed in 9.13.0 of the small silver fish on whip and maggot for second, followed by Dave Mitchell, who had some bits on pole and maggot for 8.12.0 and third.

Although no big fish put in an appearance, it was nice to see plenty of small fish in the Thame for Oxford Waltonians Challenge Cup, which was fished by 12 at Wheatley Bridge.

Top weight went to Lee Funge with 9.15.0 of perch up to 2.14.0, plus bits, on pole with either maggot or worm on the hook.

Paul Bowers caught perch and skimmers on the pole with caster, for 8.14.0 and second, while Jason Smith was third with 6.15.0 of small silver fish on maggot.

There was quite a good turnout of 16 for Kidlington’s Green Road SC-sponsored Open fished on the Cherwell at Branson’s Meadow.

The winner was Andy Benwell (Predator), who put 7.1.0 on the scales, comprising 4lb of perch on the bomb and worm, plus some bits on pole and maggot.

Fishing stick float with maggot, Paul Jackman had a 4lb bream in his second-placed 5.12.0, and third was Jim Martin, who fished the groundbait feeder with worm and had a 4lb bream in his 4.13.0.

The Thames at Northmoor was the venue for Witney's Paul Day Memorial match fished by 17, which was combined with Charlbury.

The river looked good, but was clearing, so weights were not great.

Using a maggot-feeder, Mick Mann caught 8.2.0 of small chub to emerge the clear winner.

Malcom fished the stick float with maggot feeding hemp and caught small roach and chublets. North Oxford AS were on the Oxford Canal at Waltonwell Road, where the nine anglers found the going tough.

Pegged at the bottom end, Phil Cross won with 2.10.8 of bits on pole and various baits.

He pipped Mick Abbott with 2.10.0 of bits and third man Mick Cullen with 2.2.0.
