Oxford United chairman Kelvin Thomas says the club owed it to the fans to reduce ticket prices for their FA Cup clash with Hayes and Yeading – despite their financial crisis.

The U's have cut prices across the board for the match on Saturday, October 25.

And although the club need every penny possible at the moment, Thomas admitted that they hoped by reducing prices, they might attract some new supporters.

"We are pleased to be able to reduce ticket prices for this match," he said.

"Obviously everyone is aware of the financial issues in and around the club at the moment, but we hope that by doing this, fans will come along, and hopefully bring a friend!

"We need all the additional revenue we can get at the moment, and so a home match in the FA Cup is great for us, and we're hoping as many fans as possible come along."

A ticket in the Oxford Mail stand, bought in advance, will now cost just £12.

Oxford City, meanwhile, have announced that prices for their clash at home to Eastbourne – which kicks off at the same time as United – will be unchanged.

Despite an obvious temptation to increase entrance fees because of the competition and opponents, City have resisted.

Chairman Brian Cox said: "That was never in our thoughts. We wanted to stay loyal to our fans, so the prices will be the same, as long as Eastbourne agree."

That means it will cost £8 for an adult, £4 for concessions and under 16s are free.
