Local hopefuls will be the first on the tee when Frilford Heath host the PGA PowerPlay Golf British Championship tomorrow with a £25,000 prize up for grabs.

Neil Rowlands (Chipping Norton), Mark McGeehan (Banbury) and Marc Wheeler (Oxford) will start at 8am as golf's answer to Twenty20 cricket gets under way – in a format designed to appeal to TV audiences.

The competition is played over nine holes, with two flags on each green and extra points available for those who opt to go for the black PowerPlay flag.

Former Ryder Cup player Steve Richardson is also competing, with the top 16 in the morning contesting a nine-hole shotgun sprint in the PowerPlay Shootout format, with a "thrilling climax" on the final hole.
