Oxford pipped Broadmoor Staff 25-24 after their opponents missed a match-winning conversion in their Berks, Bucks and Oxon Premier League encounter.

Broadmoor led early on with a converted try, but Joe Hartley reduced the arrears with two penalties and a Joe McAnearney try gave Oxford an 11-7 lead at the interval.

McAnearney and Simon Miller (2) scored tries, one converted by Hartley, to give Oxford a 25-12 cushion, but they almost blew it as Broadmoor staged a stirring comeback that fell just short.

Harwell recorded their third victory of the season as a confident first-half performance earned them a 41-24 win over Phoenix.

The home side led 26-5 at half-time with tries from Dave Beaven, Kev Wood, Ryan Hodnett and Mike Giddings, Beaven adding three conversions.

Phoenix looked dangerous after the break, scoring a try, but Hodnett's second try, converted by Beaven, put Harwell up.

Phoenix added two converted tries to cut the deficit to 34-24 before Andy Lee's late score and Beaven’s conversion ensured victory for Harwell.
