Oxford Hawks turned in a greatly improved performance to draw 3-3 at home to Teddington in Premier Division 1 of the Men's South League on Saturday.

They were very good value for their first league point of the season in an exciting match.

Hawks welcomed back Nick Ferraby in midfield and Gareth Playfair leading the front line.

Hawks were 2-0 down after 20 minutes before they crafted a superb goal finished off by Playfair after terrific work by the improving Rupert DaSilva down the right wing.

Teddington were reduced to ten men when their right back dumped Ferraby on the astroturf in a clumsy tackle which cost the Teddington man a cracked rib and a yellow card.

Hawks were again rocked when the visitors restored their two-goal advantage from a short corner.

Two goals adrift at half-time for the second successive week presented Hawks a huge challenge, but they threw everything at the visitors in the second period.

Their front line exposed Teddington's lack of pace at the back and pulled it back to 3-3 with goals from Tom Coppin and a Ferraby penalty stroke.

Oxford University also fought out a 3-3 draw, at Tulse Hill & Dulwich.

Banbury crashed 5-0 at last year's champions Fareham.

They were two down in six minutes and Fareham, who won 19 of their 22 games last season and include two former and one current South African international, were simply too good.

Rover Oxford recorded their first Regional League win at home as they beat a spirited PHC Chiswick 3-1.

First-half goals from Dan Pilbeam, Todd Hutcheson and Andy Wynd gave Rover a commanding lead.

PHC clawed one back at the start of the second half, but Rover defended strongly to prevent any more.

City of Oxford produced an outstanding second-half performance to beat Gerrards Cross 7-2 in Division 1.

It was only 1-0 at half-time, City leading through captain Martin James's penalty flick.

Cross equalised early in the second half, but within a minute a James short corner shot was deflected in by Alex Cock.

City then put on Lord Williams's School sixth-former Chris Brougham, and in 20 minutes he bagged four goals!

One was a penalty flick, one a short corner deflection and two from open play. And Jack Burke made it seven.

Abingdon remain pointless in Division 1 after slipping to a 3-2 defeat away to Newbury and Thatcham.

Newbury took the lead through Kevin Randall, but Will Trigg levelled for Abingdon by steering David Brooks's pass home.

Newbury regained the lead before half-time yet Abingdon made it 2-2 midway through the second half when the ball was played goalwards by Josh Tomlinson. Although it was stopped on the goalline by a defender, the Newbury keeper then contrived to back-heel the ball into the goal.

With five minutes to go, Randall claimed his second goal to win it.

Witney went down 2-1 at South Bucks with Tim Hardy getting their goal from a penalty flick.
