Rover Oxford had goalkeeper Caroline McCulloch to thank as they chalked up their first Slazenger England Women's League win by beating Aldridge 2-1 in Conference West.

In their first home game, Rover dominated in patches, but found themselves a goal down at half-time, to a well-taken reverse-stick strike.

However, Rover kept their heads and even a short corner on the half-time whistle couldn't put them off their stride.

They came out a new side in the second half, and with determined play, equalised through Emily Court's clever footwork and clear thinking.

Starting to play some excellent hockey, they had the Aldridge forwards spending much of the second half chasing the ball.

With ten minutes to go, Rover split the opposition's defence and a well-executed pass from Jen Johnson found Becky Hibbert, who converted clinically.

But, in the dying minutes, two Rover players were yellow-carded in their determination to keep Aldridge out.

And as the final whistle was about to blow, McCulloch pulled off a match-winning save.
