Yate Tn 3 (Beadle 16, Reid 55, Whittingham 59)
Banbury Utd 1 (Bridges 75)
Banbury's skeletal squad squandered lots of chances as they slumped to another Premier Division defeat.
The visitors included Ben Milner up front, to replace Matty Taylor, who had been recalled into Oxford United’s first-team squad at the eleventh hour.
Milner and Nicky Gordon certainly troubled the home back line, while Scott Bridges blasted a great early chance over the bar.
Against the run of play, Yate took the lead with their first effort at goal as Matt Beadle unleashed an unstoppable shot from 20 yards which evaded Joe Murrell’s despairing dive.
On the stroke of half-time, keeper Lee Matthews came to Yate’s rescue when he made a fantastic save from Gordon.
Ten minutes after the interval, Yate got their second through Jake Reid's swerving 25-yard shot into the roof of the net.
Four minutes later, Michael Whittington cut in from the right to fire into the far corner of the net to make it 3-0.
Banbury pulled a goal back when Bridges fired home from the edge of the box, giving Matthews little chance.
Still more chances fell to Banbury, and Lewis Travers had a shot charged down while Milner's header flashed inches wide.
Banbury: Murrell, Stringfellow, Peppiatt, Essex, Bennett, Stanbridge, Kinch, Bridges, Milner, Gordon, Travers. Subs not used: Abbasi, Sambrook, McKay.
