Julian Humm, chairman of North Oxford AS, has returned from a successful salmon trip on the Rriver Usk, near Abergavenny, in Wales, writes Andy Webber.
When he arrived, the river was 15 feet above its normal level but over the week it gradually dropped and by Friday was almost perfect.
Julian made the most of his chance and using a fly, he banked two salmon – an 11lb fish on the Friday and a nine-pounder the next morning.
Closer to home, Julian tells me there are still some North Oxford tickets available in tackle shops, while there are barbel coming out of the Seacourt and plenty of bream at Carrotts Ham.
MANCHESTER carper Ken Davies travelled down the M6 for a four-day session on Linear's Fisheries Manor Lake, near Stanton Harcourt.
Manor holds some very big fish and anglers from all over the country make the journey to try and catch just one.
Ken did better than than, catching three huge carp including the fish known as ‘Cut Tail’ weighing 38.6.0.
Targeting a clear area among the weed about 60 yards ou, he baited up with some Mainline Cell bottom baits. With the wind blowing into his face, his first fish out was the ‘Birthmark Linear' at 34.6.0.
A couple of days into the session, he had another run, this time from ‘Kempy’s Linear' weighing 33.4.0, followed by Cut Tail on the last day.
He used Korda Wide Gap hooks, tied to a Supernatural Braid hooklength. All three specimens broke Ken's previous best fish.
