Neil Baggett's 80th-minute try earned Henley Hawks a heart-stopping 10-6 victory at Worthing in National 3 South.
But their sloppy performance left coach Jason Forster demanding never to see a repeat display.
Henley were trailing 6-3 before Baggett's try and Danny Wells's conversion got them out of jail – and they still had to endure six minutes of stoppage time.
Forster said: "This performance was as disappointing as the victory over Bridgwater had been impressive.
"The boys approached the game in the wrong frame of mind.
"They thought that Worthing, bottom of the league without a win, were going to me easy meat.
"Far from it and they struggled in the first half to stop them from easing away.
"In the second period, they squandered at least four gilt edged scoring chances.
"They lacked the patience to cash in on these.
"Although they defended well to preserve their narrow lead in the closing minutes, their performance was not worthy of the Henley jersey and I never want to see a repeat of this."
Full back Ben Coulson gave Worthing the lead with a second-minute penalty and made it 6-0 five minutes later.
Henley fly half Tommy Turner missed two fairly straight-forward penalties before slotting one after 18 minutes.
Worthing No 8 Paul Cox was sin-binned for foul play soon after the break, which prompted a Hawks improvement.
Henley lacked the killer touch, however, until skipper Matt Payne and wing Pete Davies set up Baggett to score.
It still took a last-ditch tackle from full back Ralph Smith to deny Worthing late on.
Chinnor collected a bonus point in their 25-20 defeat at Bridgwater & Albion.
The visitors' downfall came from early sloppiness and the sin-binning of captain Matt Hutchings with Bridgwater scoring 12 points while he was off.
The hosts ran the ball back with pace from the kick off with lock Steve Hunt scoring under the posts and fly half Luke Cozens converting.
Cozens kicked a penalty to make it 10-0 after nine minutes.
Chinnor hit back with full back Alex Wallace collecting his own up and under before setting up the supporting hooker Arthur Ellis.
Fly half James Cathcart converted from the touchline, but Hutchings' yellow card, for deliberate off-side, turned the tide.
Lock Danny Hodge scored two tries, Cozens converting the latter, to make it 22-7.
Wallace set up Chinnor's second score for debutant wing James Serrano, which Cathcart converted.
Another Cozens penalty gave Bridgwater a 25-15 half-time lead.
Cathcart slotted two penalties in the second half, but Chinnor couldn't snatch victory in the final ten minutes.
