Oxford City 2 (Faulkner 61, Lyon 86)

Tiverton 1 (Wyatt 89)

Oxford City gave one of their best performances of the season in their FA Cup second-qualifying round victory against their ten-man British Gas Business Southern League Premier Division rivals at Court Place Farm on Saturday.

Strikes from James Faulkner and a late strike from sub Michael Lyon saw City, who were given a second chance after Bracknell were thrown out, to make the third qualifying round.

Neither keeper was forced to make any serious saves as most of the action was in the middle of the park.

Tiverton's Tom Gardner blocked Andy Baird, before he saved smartly from James Faulkner.

After the break, City keeper Ryan Harrison got across well to save from former Wycombe player Chris Vinnicombe.

An excellent strike from Mike Booth appeared to deceive Harrison before rebounding off the bar.

City's Mark Bell might have done better than driving across front of goal.

But on 61 minutes, City made the breakthrough when Faulkner headed in a superb free kick from Steve Davis.

Harrison then kept out another Knighton strike with a foot, before Craig Faulconbridge's diving header hit a post.

City's George Redknapp saw his effort crash off the top of the crossbar.

Tiverton were reduced to ten men when Nathan Rudoe was sent off for foul language on 84 minutes.

City substitute Lyon cracked home City's second on 86 minutes and although Paul Wyatt reduced the arrears for Tiverton, it was too late.

Oxford C: Harrison, Saulsbury, Davis, Gunn, Redknap, Jackman, Malone, Faulkner (Gardner 85), Baird (Lyon 38), Faulconbridge. Subs not used: Weedon, Pond, KIte, Rendall.
