With the nights starting to draw in, autumn is only just around the corner, and I have to admit that I enjoy this time of year the most, writes Andy Webber.
There are not so many anglers on the rivers, and once the rain arrives we have extra colour and flow – perfect conditions for some really big fish.
But we will also go through that period of cold, frosty nights when our rivers go gin-clear. Even in these conditions, fish can still be caught.
What you need to do is scale down, use smaller hooks and baits, lighter lines and reduce the amount of feed.
And, of course, some luck comes in handy!
Cyril Barker, the former president of Farmoor Flyfishing Club, has died.
Cyril, who lived in Eynsham, was very well respected and will be sadly missed.
His funeral will take place at Oxford Crematorium on Thursday, October 2 at noon.
