Oxford Harlequins' director of rugby Matt Maudsley was in upbeat mood despite their second defeat from two this season.
Maudsley said: "I was delighted with the spirit we showed.
"With us having to play players out of position and the majority of their team having played in National 3 last season, today was really positive.
"The defining moment was the yellow card for Paul DeLange.
"That was just too big a mountain to climb."
Maudsley added: "It was clearly a try that Ben Nicholl scored.
"We have limited resources at the moment.
"I have already informed them that players are on their way, but there is a 20-day delay with visas.
"I don't think there's going to be any weak teams this year. We've got to get the right players in the right positions.
"Ollie Campbell was a hooker at Newbury and I would love to play him there, but that's the way it goes."
